This nest box has gone through many changes in the last month. On April 31, 2000, a pair of Western Bluebirds started nest construction. By week 3, the female laid six eggs. During week 5, the eggs hatched and were preyed upon by a gopher snake. Also in week 5, shortly after the nest box was snake-proofed, a pair of Violet-green Swallows moved in.  Week 1

 

April 30- May 7 : Bluebird pair building a nest.

 Week 2

 

May 8-14: Eggs 1-5 were laid.

 Week 3

 

May 15-21: 6th egg was laid this week followed by incubation.

 Week 4

 

May 22-28: Female incubates.

 Week 5

 

May 29- June 1: All six eggs hatch and 2 days later the nestlings are preyed upon by a gopher snake. Click on Bluebird Egg Hatching Photos for more images.
