James Reserve Photo Gallery-Birds

The following photos were taken at the James Reserve or noted otherwise.
Each picture will also note if the image was taken from a webcam or from a digital camera. The Oak Titmouse, Acorn and White-headed Woodpecker are rarely seen at the feeders
but are often seen and/or heard throughout the reserve. Note: this is only a limited list of birds which are seen on the reserve and at the feeders. We will add more birds when images are available. For a complete list of bird species on our reserve, visit our annotated species list at http://www.jamesreserve.edu/databases.html

* The typical juncos are collectively called Dark-eyed Junco (Junco hyemalis). Within the Dark-eyed Junco group, there are a number of races. The default subspecies for our area is the Oregon Junco (J. h. thurberi). But, there is also the Slate-colored Junco found mostly in the East, Pink-sided in the Rockies, White-winged in the Black Hills area, and Gray-headed in the southern Rockies. ALL are occasionally found in the West. The Oregon race mainly winters in the west.
